Beer Review: Tease (part 1 of 2).

I felt bad about not having time to write up a review tonight, so instead I'm leaving you all with a sneak peak of what's to come tomorrow... If you can guess what it is, I shall even let you decide what will be the next beer I review.

Here are your hints dearest readers:

Canadian
Strong Ale
10.5%
Caramel

Think you can figure out what it is? Post in the comments and see if you get it right (no cheating).

Beer Review: Guinness Extra Stout (Ireland)

Lucky for you guys! After my roommate drank all of my beer yesterday, I realized I did have a special bottle left in the basement. Today I'll be reviewing Guinness Extra Stout, imported from the Netherlands.

Looks: Deep black with a big frothy brown/beige head.
Smells: Lots of roasted malt, licorice, coffee.
Tastes: Coffee and roasted malt, light tastes of dark chocolate. Long bitter finish.

Looks: 4/5 - Pretty good looking, but the line between the body and head is nice quite as defined as a normal Guinness.
Smells: 4/5 - Very heavy on the roasted malt for the nose, making it quite hard to detect the other aromas
Tastes: 7.5/10 - Quite refreshing, a nice variation from a regular Guinness.
Overall: 14.5/20 - Pretty good beer, give it a try if you like Guinness. Personally I find it a little bit less good than its counterpart, however still fun to have one every once in a while.

No Post: Or is it really?

Yeah it really is a no post. You can thank my roommate for this one, as while I was away to work, he and his buddies drank all the beer I had in the fridge... No beer in fridge = No review! (also means I need to go pickup more tomorrow, as he drank 3 of the bottles I had planned on reviewing this week...)

I shall see you all tomorrow with a new review for you all.

J Answers You: Pouring your beer.

Howdy everyone, here's a little video on how to properly pour your beer. Now I didn't film this, but it does have some good tips, so pay attention everyone.

News from J's house: I got asked how's my kitty. I took him to the vet, he is fine, they are not quite sure what caused it though, but it has more or less stopped. So let's hope it stays that way.

Alcohol Review: Glen Taite Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 19 years (Scotland)

Special treat ladies and gentlemen! One of my hidden gems in this city (a bar of course) was able to get its hands on a bottle of Glentaite. Going at about $100 per bottle, you can see why it's not something you'd see everyday (at least not in Canada, it is however, distributed in the States as far as I know). Lucky for me, I was able to be there for the bottle opening and review this fine scotch for you.

Looks: Smooth amber, almost golden but not quite.
Smells: Honey, peat smoke, toffee, leather, oak.
Tastes: Quite oily feel. Tastes of nuts, spice, leather and a light touch of apricot and banana adding to the sweetness. Finishes a bit dry with some citrus, spice and a bit of pepper.

Looks: 4.5/5 - Clear bottle lets you see right away what you are in for, and it looks delicious.
Smells: 4/5 - Good smell, the leather is a bit dominant, but adds a lot to it's aroma.
Tastes: 9/5 - Great, plain and simple. Try to enjoy it's multiple layers.
Overall: 17.5/20 - Excellent bottle, if you get one, be sure to enjoy it, not just down it. A bit on the pricey side, but worth every penny.

Beer Review: Sleeman Dark Ale (Canada)

Quick beer review tonight: Sleeman Dark Ale

Looks: Dark reddish with a small white head.
Smells: Very faint smell of chocolate, earth, light touch of hops.
Tastes: Very very faint chocolate, some brown sugar, light taste of lemon.

Looks: 3.5/5 - Not enough head as it diminishes very fast.
Smells: 2.5/5 - Almost no smell. Every aroma is too faint to really distinguish it.
Tastes: 5.5/10 - Has a nice creamy feel to it, but overall is very bland for a dark ale.
Overall: 11.5/20 - A bit better than commercial beers, but nothing special. I personally find it quite bland. They must have been too afraid to kick up the flavor and tried to market to the masses instead. If they had put more emphasis on the chocolate and a stronger finish, it would be a much better beer (better smell AND taste).

J Answers You: Your supermarket and you.

Howdy everyone, time for another J Answers You. Today I'll be talking about your local supermarket, even if I've never been there.

Now we all go to the supermarket to buy food, toothpaste, cat food and various other goods. Sometimes this includes beer. Sadly most supermarkets don't carry good beers. They generally only have what I like to call "watered-down piss" (the common folk may know these products as Bud, Coors and various other terrible non-beer beers).

Today's J Answers You is basically a public service announcement. Don't buy these beers. They are bad beers. They are bad beers. I know I wrote that twice, it's emphasis on how bad these beers are. See, the less people buy these, the more your local supermarket will look into selling other beers (because huge profit margins and all that). You can also always leave requests at your local supermarket asking them to encourage local brewers by retailing their products. This is how good beers get know.

So everyone, show your support for good beers. Remember to support your local brewers and not buy the over-commercialized crap that's being passed off as beer on TV.

PS: Due to a change in my schedule, updates will no longer be posted at 6pm, but later at night. Sorry guys, but work comes before drinking (I doubt my boss would be happy to see me reviewing beer at my desk).

Beer Review: Delirium Tremens (Belgium)

Howdy all. Yesterday I promised you a special treat, and here it is (well the treat is mostly for me, since I'll be drinking it). Today I'll be reviewing Delirium Tremens, one of my favorite beers, which also happens to be quite hard to get my hands on.

Looks: Light hazy yellow/golden. Big white frothy head that diminishes quite quickly, but still remains quite thick.
Smells: Apricots, banana, spices, yeast.
Tastes: Fruits, sweet. Its taste fades quite quickly in your mouth, leaving a dry finish that makes you want to drink more.

Looks: 4/5 - Looks great. Ideally you need to let it sit a tiny bit in order to get the most of it.
Smells: 5/5 - Such an intense mix of fruits and spices, enough to make you salivate for it.
Tastes: 9/10 - Simply amazing. It's sweetness hides it's quite high alcohol content (8.5%), so be sure to take your time savoring it.
Overall: 18/20 - If you ever come across this, do yourself a favor and get some. Even if you don't like beer get this.

No Post: Third time is a charm

Last time, I swear guys. Had no time free with taking the cat to the vet and all that.

I actually have the bottle for today's review, however I just don't have the time to review it like it deserves to be reviewed (I had to work HARD to get my hands on this one, so expect something special tomorrow).
